The case
Hussain's Sunaina is mute, and the character's whole arc — desire, fury, refusal — is carried in sign, face and posture opposite a very loud film. It is one of the most impressive Hindi debut performances of the last ten years, and the follow-up offers never matched it. The clearest case of talent outrunning opportunity on this list.
Where to start
Begin with Mukkabaaz (2017). It's in this canon — read our entry on it. Then work through Grahan, Ghoomer, Manto.
